Recovery of Public Folder Item in Exchange 2013

Public Folder is efficient & convenient way of sharing your data and information with other people. It also helps you in maintaining hierarchy of folders that lets people easy to understand & browse the folder. Public Folder can be access by that user only who has the prior permission to access it.

But sometimes it happened that due to some failure or accidentally, it gets deleted by the users. So in that condition, they can perform the following techniques to recover data from the public folder. So, in this we’ll have a look at how to recover Items of a Public Folder.

Since a new feature introduced in Exchange 2013 is ‘Retention limit’. Actually Retention limit is the no of days to preserve a message after its arrival in user’s mailbox.
Let’s come to a scenario where we calculate the Retention Limit on mailboxes of public folder.

One more important thing about Retention limit is default Retention age is up to 30 days i.e., we can set limit up to 30 days only because its became studious task to manage databases.

Here we have set Retention limit is 16 days. Let’s coming back to the scenario where we first deleted Items from the Public Folder & see how does the Recovery Process work.

In the above figure, there is a mail in a public folder. Now what we’ll do is that delete that mails from that folder.

The figure above shows that we have deleted the mails from the public folder. Then we’ll go to the Folder option on the top of the Menu >> Recover Deleted Items.
Deleted Items will exist here only because we have deleted items from the public folder.

As you click on the Recover Deleted Items, it will take you the window showing the deleted items.

Here, you will see the actual Item that has been deleted by you. Clicking on Deleted Items will restore your mails at their original locations

So, by following all the above steps you can recover single Item of a Public Folder.

NOTE: Retention limit should be set & users must know the date and time of deletion. Then only they can restore deleted items of Exchange 2013.

Conclusion: So, in this blog post we have discussed the possible steps for single item recovery of Exchange 2013 but if you are facing database corruption problem from exchange server & you are searching for the trustable tools then you can try Exchange Recovery Application.
